Dear AAUW Member Leaders, 

While our fiscal year officially began in July, we know that September is when many states and branches truly shift back into gear — launching programs, reconnecting with members, and putting plans for the year ahead into action. We’re excited for all that you will accomplish in the months to come and grateful for the leadership, energy, and commitment you bring to advancing AAUW’s mission in your communities. 

This issue of Membership Matters is filled with resources and reminders to help you start the season strong and stay on track throughout the months ahead. You’ll also find an important update on the Branch & Affiliate Annual Report and affiliate bylaws, including what leaders can expect as AAUW reviews submissions and follows up on outstanding requirements. We hope you’ll bookmark the resources that are most useful to you and continue to turn to AAUW National whenever we can help support your work.

When processing renewals and donations, be sure to read the Instructions carefully before you begin. Pay special attention to the Note and Tips for Larger Branches sections, as they contain important guidance and best practices that may affect how you complete the process. 

Act now to ensure your branch members remain in good standing! The grace period ends September 30 for non-renewing members whose AAUW membership expired June 30, 2026. Please check your records for those who paid your branch directly and renew their memberships through the hub! 

The Shape the Future Campaign discount of 50% off national dues for new members (those who are entirely new or rejoining AAUW after two or more years) remains in effect. The coupon code is STFFY27. The free membership report and redemption form are available through October 31, 2026.

College/University membership is only $250 a year. With that comes lots of benefits, including free membership for all students! The coupon codes for free AAUW College/University student members are: CUStudentFY27 for Student Associates (undergrads) and CUGradStudentFY27 for Grad Students.

All AAUW-affiliated entities must file an annual IRS return. If your gross receipts are $50K or less, AAUW can file the 990-N for the tax year ending June 30, 2026. The group exemption form is now open from April 16 to October 15.

Note: Don’t qualify to file the 990-N? Explore other options at irs.gov.

Anyone believed to qualify for honorary status (member for 50 years) who has not yet been recognized should complete an honorary lifetime application and submit it for review/approval.

Affiliate president/administrator, membership VP, and finance officers can update officers in the hub. If an officer is returning, please update their term-end dates. If an officer is newly appointed or missing, please add them. If you’re unable to make updates, please email and put Officer Updates in the subject line. [email protected]

• Click the button next to your affiliate name, then choose MANAGE ROSTER.   
• Select COMMITTEE MANAGEMENT, then follow the on-screen instructions.
