Across Central Texas, growth continues to reshape how people live, work and connect. This month, we’re looking at the early momentum behind Austin’s housing affordability efforts, the return of a beloved summer tradition at Zilker Hillside Theater and the role community conversations continue to play across the region.
As communities grow, the focus is shifting beyond development. Leaders and organizations across Central Texas are asking bigger questions about accessibility, workforce stability, and culture and connection. The stories this month reflect that broader conversation. |
Housing Affordability Efforts Show Early Progress |
Austin’s ongoing efforts to address housing affordability are beginning to show measurable movement.
The HOME Impact Report, a new research report from Unlock MLS and the Austin Board of REALTORSⓇ analyzed the early results of the City of Austin’s Home Options for Middle-Income Empowerment initiative. The report found that the policy is doing what it was designed to do—creating more housing options at lower price points in the places where demand is highest. While affordability remains one of the biggest challenges facing Austin, this progress shows that meaningful policy changes can make a real difference by creating more attainable housing opportunities for working families.

In a rapidly growing city, traditions like this matter. They create connections across generations and remind people that Austin’s cultural identity remains one of its strongest assets. Creating Space for Important Conversations |
At ECPR Texas, we believe the strongest events do more than bring people together. They create space for conversations that help communities move forward.
Recently, our team supported Feeding Texas’ Legislative Briefing, a discussion focused on HR 1—the federal reconciliation law that includes significant changes to SNAP funding and eligibility—and the importance of informed dialogue around economic stability and food access across the state.
In Central Texas, organizations are using events to strengthen partnerships, align stakeholders and create more meaningful engagement. From policy discussions to community convenings, thoughtful events play an important role in shaping regional momentum.

This month’s Connector Playlist comes from Cheryl Katon, president and CEO of Emancipet, whose work continues to expand access to veterinary care and strengthen communities across Texas. “It turns out, creating a definitive soundtrack for your life is a great self-reflective exercise. Many of these songs capture the emotions of a specific life chapter. Others are actual diegetic needle drops that punctuated specific events. The process brought back memories, emotions and new insights connected to loved ones and impactful experiences.” 🎧 Listen to Cheryl's Connector Playlist ▶ |
