Love is at the heart of everything we do at Foster Together. Love for children who find themselves in desperate and often overwhelming situations. Love for the foster families who generously open their homes, providing stability, safety, and care when it’s needed most. And love for the biological parents who are trying — often against incredible odds — to create safe, healthy environments so their children never have to enter foster care.
It was this last group that prompted us to pause, listen, and thoughtfully create a new program.
In 2025, we had conversations with child welfare professionals at every level, from frontline caseworkers to state leadership, including the Director of Missouri’s Children’s Division, to better understand where families are falling through the cracks. Again and again, we heard the same message: there are very few resources for parents who are doing their best but still struggling to keep their children safely at home or to reunify their families. Sometimes, the barrier is heartbreakingly simple — a car seat so a mom can safely take her baby to daycare and get to work, or a bed that allows a child a safe space of their own to sleep.
Together at Home was created to meet these critical needs. This new program supports biological families who are at risk of separation or who are working toward reunification, helping to remove practical obstacles that can have life-changing consequences. By providing tangible support at the right moment through case managers, we can help keep children safely with their parents whenever possible.
While it will always be our desire to keep children safely with their biological family, we remain endlessly grateful for the foster families who step in with open hearts and open homes — because every child deserves safety, stability, and love. |

✨FOSTER TOGETHER SPOTLIGHT✨ JESS FITZGERALD
Jess Fitzgerald has been an integral part of Foster Together since the very beginning—back when the organization was still operating out of founder Laura Storm’s basement. A college friend of Laura’s, Jess answered the call after seeing a Facebook post about the work Laura and her family were doing. Nearly eight years later, her commitment has never wavered.
From those early days to where Foster Together is now, Jess has consistently shared her talents in organization, leadership, and collaboration, helping shape the strong volunteer culture that defines the organization today. As a natural organizer, Jess currently serves as Textile Donation Lead, playing a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly. |
She oversees donation sorting, storage organization, and seasonal changeovers—work that happens largely behind the scenes but makes an enormous difference for the families served. Her organizational skills and steady presence ensure that the boutique remains efficient, welcoming, and ready to meet each family’s needs. She sites her deep respect for foster parents and the incredible amount of love, time, and energy they pour into caring for children in foster care as a driving force behind her continued commitment.
Jess has also been instrumental in growing the Foster Together community. Over the years, she has invited friends and family to join the mission—volunteering alongside her mom in the early days, encouraging friends to get involved, and even recruiting her husband to build custom shelving for the back room. Her ability to bring others along has strengthened not just the team, but the heart of Foster Together.
A steady, behind-the-scenes force, Jess’s impact is felt not only in the boutique’s organization, but in the compassion, collaboration, and care she brings every day. Thank you, Jess, for your tireless dedication and for being such an important part of the Foster Together family. |

Our Young Professionals Board is an incredible example of that. Formed just one year ago, they’ve already made a huge impact planning, organizing and executing top notch events with energy, ideas, and a whole lot of heart.
These young professionals (yes, under-40-something) are simply amazing, and we are so grateful for the time and talent they pour into supporting children through Foster Together! |
