The JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention is traveling to Minnesota April 16-18 — and we need your help making it a great convention!

We are currently seeking session submissions for the convention.  Teachers, advisers, media professionals and students in editorial leadership positions are all invited to submit speaker proposals for breakout sessions. 

Submissions are due Jan. 30. Come share your love of journalism!

What presentation format are we looking for?

We are seeking proposals for 45-minute educational breakout sessions that relate to scholastic journalism and student media.

NHSJC breakout session attendance is first-come, first-served, so we are seeking flexible presentations that can accommodate any group size, with standard AV and room set needs.

While the exact presentation format is up to you, we value sessions that provide an engaging, high-energy experience. We are especially interested in sessions that are interactive, hands-on and tailored to our attendance base, which is about 80% middle and high school students.

How do I submit my proposal?

First, you'll create a speaker account and then you'll complete a short application by Jan. 30 to submit your session. The speaker portal offers full instructions and details on what information will be needed.

If you aren't yet sure if you'll be able to attend, please don't let that stop you from submitting on time. If needed, you can edit your proposal or withdraw your application later, but we are unable to guarantee acceptance of late submissions.

The NHSJC first-time convention grant offers an opportunity for a school (one middle or high school journalism adviser and up to two of their students) to attend their first JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention. The adviser applying for this grant should be a first-time attendee. NHSJC will award up to two grants this spring.

JEA and NSPA will provide up to 50 need-based registration scholarships for students interested in attending the convention. Scholarship recipients will receive free registration to the convention.

Please note that this scholarship only covers the main event registration. It does not cover travel/hotel expenses or convention extras. For this reason, local and regional students are especially encouraged to apply.
