Dear Friend,
I’m writing to you today with a special message about the importance of Canada’s role as a global leader in compassionate aid and international development. We’re hearing a lot of misinformation about the role Canada plays in global aid and I want to set the record straight.
There are several myths being circulated that might make people question the value of Canadian foreign aid. But the truth is, Canada’s aid is not just a gift—it’s an investment in global stability, security, and our shared future.
Here are some of the most common myths, and the facts you need to know:
❌ Myth 1: "International aid is a loss for Canadians."
✅ Fact: Every dollar invested in aid benefits us by promoting global stability, preventing pandemics and creating economic opportunities that help reduce migration due to hardships. Empowering women, saving lives and addressing climate issues overseas helps us all.
❌ Myth 2: "Canada gives too much to other countries."
✅ Fact: Canada has not lived up to its promise of spending 0.7% of GDP on foreign aid—currently, we’re only at 0.37%. In fact, we’re contributing barely half of what we promised back in 1969.
❌ Myth 3: "Canadians don’t care about foreign aid."
✅ Fact: For over 60 years, Cuso has transformed the lives of generations of people in more than 100 countries, with the support of thousands of donors and 14,000 volunteers who have joined the movement over the years. And the change continues to this day. Our own existence shows Canadians care deeply about human rights, alleviating poverty and climate action.
We are at a crucial moment to affirm Canada’s positive role in the world. Your donation is not just a gift, it’s a statement that Canadians will continue to be a force for good.
Will you donate today so that we can continue to be the country that leads with fairness and humanity?
