Dear Friends,
Yesterday, while waiting to board our flight home from vacation, I got a message from our contractor that no one ever wants to see: “Call as soon as possible.”
Over the weekend, a pipe burst in the kitchen of the Cass Ave building—in the basement where most of the renovation work was nearly complete.
Today, I was able to walk through the building with our contractors and the damage was, unfortunately, worse than expected. The good news is: it didn’t destroy everything, and our professional crew acted quickly to contain the situation. They’ve already removed the water, treated for mold, and have dehumidifiers and fans running.
Still, the damage is significant:
About 2 feet of drywall across half the basement needs to be removed.
Much of the newly installed carpet and some of the laminate flooring is ruined.
The kitchen cabinetry—originally not part of our renovation plan—now needs replacing.
We’re also bracing for a high water bill due to the leak.
This is a tough setback in both time and cost, but we’re moving forward and trusting God’s provision in every detail. God provided this building for us, and we fully believe He will provide everything we need to finish it.
Everything is being handled by our licensed professional contractors—what we need most right now is your prayers.
Please pray for:
- Quick and complete drying to prevent long-term damage
-
Wisdom and favor as we speak with insurance
- Encouragement and protection for the construction crew
- Provision and peace during this delay
We know this didn’t take God by surprise, and we trust He is already at work in the middle of it all. Thank you for walking this journey with us in prayer—we look forward to sharing good news with you soon!
With gratitude,
Lori Drake
