Last night, the autocratic Iranian regime launched an unprecedented direct
attack on Israeli sovereign territory. This is an unconscionable act of
aggression, and a serious escalation in warfare, which endangers all, and
threatens to destroy sites sacred to Christians, Muslims, and Jews alike. We
pray for the complete recovery of the young Israeli-Bedouin girl who remains
in serious condition after being injured by shrapnel from an intercepted
Iranian aerial attack. We hope that no additional harm comes from Iran's
attack.
Members of the New York Jewish community are deeply fearful for the safety
of our loved ones in Israel. We are still reeling from the attacks of
October 7th, which were perpetrated by Hamas, another Iranian terrorist
proxy. Once again, our loved ones have been forced to sleep in bomb
shelters. However, we are deeply grateful for the steadfast support of the
Biden Administration, and Members of Congress. We urge Congress to
immediately approve critical aid for Israel's continued defense. We thank
those Members of Congress who have already voiced their unwavering support
and we expect this vote to be introduced on the floor immediately.
Defensive capabilities like this help defend many nations all over the
world, many of whom came together to intercept this Iranian attack,
including the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, France, Saudi
Arabia, and Jordan.
We also thank Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams for immediately deploying
state and local law enforcement to ensure the security of Jewish communities
in New York. We greatly appreciate the heroic work of New York’s National
Guard, NYS Police, NYPD, and all law enforcement personnel working around
the clock keeping all New Yorkers safe. We will continue to work with our
community partners, such as UJA-Federation of New York, to keep our
community stakeholders informed on the latest developments as well as ensure
our community’s needs and concerns are heard and addressed by government
leaders.
To all communities of faith and all our fellow New Yorkers, we ask for your
prayers and solidarity at this time. This attack, which saw Iranian missiles
flying over the Holy City of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, Church of the Holy
Sepulcher, and Western Wall, should outrage us all. As increased hate
threatens to tear us apart, your supportive words and actions comfort us and
strengthen our shared society here in New York. |
