Rebuilding Hope in the Hill Country

Every household’s path forward after a flood looks different. Some families need immediate financial help. Others need a safe place to stay, guidance navigating available programs or support making longer-term decisions about their homes.

Across the Hill Country, recovery partners are working to meet those needs with resources designed to help families take their next step forward. This week, that work includes a new temporary housing program for flood-affected households in Kerr County and Comfort.

Families across the Hill Country continue to connect with financial assistance, case managers and recovery resources based on their individual needs.

Each number represents a household moving through the recovery process and helps recovery partners better understand where resources are needed most.

Temporary Housing Assistance Now Available for Flood-Affected Households

For families whose homes were damaged or made unlivable by the July 16 flood, a safe place to stay can provide critical stability while they determine what comes next.

Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has awarded $967,575 to First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville to provide up to three months of temporary housing assistance for eligible flood-affected households in Kerr County and Comfort. First Presbyterian has administered temporary housing assistance in partnership with the Foundation since the July 4, 2025 flood.

According to the Rebuild Kerr Needs Assessment, approximately 120 households reported needing temporary housing assistance following the July 16 flood.

“For a family whose home has been damaged or made unlivable, having a safe place to stay provides the stability they need to begin making longer-term decisions,” said Rev. Jasiel Hernandez Garcia, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville. “We are grateful to continue walking alongside families affected by this disaster and helping them take the next steps toward recovery.”

Temporary housing is one part of a broader recovery effort. The Community Foundation is also funding 40 disaster case managers, providing emergency financial assistance to more than 850 households and supporting small-business recovery through a $5 million grant to LiftFund.

Need Help?

Disaster case managers will contact households that have already completed the Needs Assessment and indicated a housing need. Flood-affected households in Kerr County and Comfort that have not completed an assessment can begin the recovery process by completing the Needs Assessment at RebuildKerr.org.
