Colorado Medical Society celebrates opening of UNC College of Osteopathic Medicine |
Colorado Medical Society staff and physician leaders proudly joined community partners, educators and supporters at the grand opening of the University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine on July 24, celebrating a historic step forward for physician education in Colorado. The event marked the launch of the third Colorado medical school and the white coat ceremony for an inaugural class of 80 students, signaling a significant investment in the health of communities across Northern Colorado and the state.
The new college was intentionally designed to help address Colorado’s physician workforce shortage, particularly in rural and underserved areas. More than half of the inaugural class are Colorado residents, and the student body reflects the communities it aims to serve, with strong representation among first-generation college students, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and students from diverse ethnic and cultural communities. CMS is honored to support this milestone and looks forward to the lasting impact these future physicians will have on improving access to care for generations to come.

MultiPlan litigation in the news |
The Colorado Medical Society is a plaintiff in a federal antitrust lawsuit alleging that MultiPlan (now Claritev) and major health insurers worked together to suppress out-of-network reimbursement rates paid to providers. Healthcare Finance Management Association (HFMA) recently covered the growing momentum behind the case, highlighting two favorable rulings for providers in recent months, including the court's rejection of defenses aimed at limiting recovery and a decision allowing 17 additional insurers to be named as defendants. Members who believe they've been impacted by MultiPlan's practices can still file a case by reaching out to an attorney. The firms were vetted by the American Medical Association and offer preferred pricing for Colorado Medical Society members.
