CMS-championed legislation to reduce administrative burden for practices, effective Aug. 6, 2026 |
Practice managers should take note of a new law that CMS helped champion, designed to streamline administrative processes and improve the delivery of patient care. Senate Bill 21-126: Streamlined Provider Credentialing is intended to reduce unnecessary paperwork, simplify operational requirements, and make it easier for physicians and other clinicians to focus on patients rather than administrative tasks.
For practice leaders, the law represents an important step toward improving practice efficiency and reducing burdens that can consume valuable staff and clinician time. As implementation moves forward, practice managers should review the changes and evaluate how the new requirements may affect workflows, compliance processes, and day-to-day operations within their organizations. |

Latest MultiPlan litigation update: CMS presses forward in MultiPlan litigation over alleged rate suppression |
The Colorado Medical Society, with the American Medical Association and other state medical associations, continues to press forward in the federal antitrust lawsuit against MultiPlan and major health insurers, alleging they colluded to suppress out-of-network reimbursement rates. In June, the court rejected defendants’ attempt to add an “unclean hands” defense and approved the addition of new alleged co-conspirators to the case. Discovery and trial preparations remain underway, and physicians who believe they have been affected by MultiPlan’s practices can still pursue claims. Strengthening CME programs: Highlights from the CMS Accredited Providers Conference |
On June 25, the Colorado Medical Society hosted its inaugural Accredited Providers Conference, bringing together CME professionals, program leaders, ACCME representatives, and accredited provider staff for a full day of practical education and collaboration. The conference focused on helping accredited providers navigate evolving ACCME requirements, strengthen compliance processes, and maximize the impact of continuing medical education programs.
Attendees participated in expert-led sessions covering ACCME standards and program analysis, the use of artificial intelligence to improve CME program management, strategies for managing commercial support and joint providership, and the broader value of accredited education in driving meaningful practice change. The event also created opportunities for peer networking, shared problem-solving, and discussion of common challenges facing CME programs today.

Federal CMS launches Medicare GLP-1 bridge program |
Effective July 1, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, a federal demonstration program that allows eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access certain GLP-1 weight loss medications for $50 per month. The program marks a significant change in Medicare coverage, as weight loss medications have historically only been covered when prescribed for certain related conditions. The Bridge program creates a new pathway for qualifying beneficiaries to receive these medications specifically for weight management.
As many practices anticipated, the program may generate increased patient inquiries and administrative workload as Medicare patients seek to determine whether they qualify. Eligibility is based on BMI and specific clinical criteria, and physicians or their staff members may be required to complete prior authorizations and certify that patients are participating in a lifestyle program that includes diet and exercise.
