University of Colorado Anschutz, AMA collaborate on educational video series: Caring for people with disabilities |
The American Medical Association (AMA) announced a collaboration with the University of Colorado Anschutz on a new educational video series to help physicians and medical students provide high-quality, patient-centered care for people with disabilities.
The Caring for People with Disabilities Series is free and available on AMA Ed HubTM, AMA’s online learning platform. The series gives health care professionals practical guidance, real-world strategies, and proven tools to meet the unique needs of patients with diverse disabilities. By addressing common barriers in clinical practice, the AMA aims to advance accessible, inclusive medical care and improve health outcomes for all people — including patients with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.
Each module in the series is under 30 minutes and accompanied by searchable transcripts. The first five are available now, with more planned for later in the year. |

AMA unveils infographic to help patients safely navigate AI in health care |
The American Medical Association (AMA) released an infographic with recommended prompts and specific cautions to help patients use AI chatbots safely and effectively in managing and improving their health. As generative AI technology becomes more commonplace, the AMA urges patients to be mindful about how they engage with AI health tools, emphasizing the importance of informed use and maintaining the vital role of medical professionals.
The AMA-recommended AI prompts, developed with patient safety in mind, are designed to assist individuals as they learn about symptoms, treatment options, and prepare for doctor visits, without replacing their physician. Inspired by best practices and recent advances in AI-powered health tools, the AMA’s advice highlights how patients can benefit from AI when used to inform, not diagnose. |

Know a physician who volunteers and gives back to the community? Nominate them for the Copic Humanitarian Award |
The Copic Humanitarian Award has recognized more than 50 volunteer physicians across seven states who make a meaningful impact beyond their daily work—whether serving underserved populations or supporting rural health care. Each year, Copic honors a physician who selflessly volunteers outside of their practice. The recipient directs a $10,000 donation from Copic to a Colorado-based health care 501(c)(3) organization.
Know someone deserving? Submit a nomination at copic.com/humanitarian-award by Aug. 15, 2026. |

MultiPlan litigation update: Bellwether plaintiffs selected; you can still participate |
The Colorado Medical Society (CMS) is a plaintiff in the In re MultiPlan Health Insurance Provider Litigation, a federal antitrust case alleging that MultiPlan and major health insurers colluded to suppress out-of-network reimbursement rates paid to physicians and other providers and is seeking an immediate end to their anti-competitive conduct. We joined at the request of the American Medical Association to compel an end to these alleged anti-competitive, price-suppressing practices.
At the April 9 case management conference, the parties discussed with Judge Kennelly the information the defendants must share as part of discovery, including MultiPlan’s source code and cell phone records of communications between defendants.
The case is now in discovery and the court has selected the 36 bellwether plaintiffs whose cases are being worked up for trial. However, any CMS member who wants to file a case still can do so. You would not need to submit every affected claim. Because MultiPlan tracks payments by tax ID, attorneys can obtain a comprehensive claims history to assess the total impact. Your role would be to review a sample of explanation of benefits (EOBs) for out-of-network claims to confirm MultiPlan involvement. If one claim was processed through MultiPlan, it is likely there are many more.
Members who believe they've been impacted by MultiPlan's practices are encouraged to reach out to an attorney. A case evaluation does not obligate you to join the lawsuit.
The AMA vetted the law firms involved and secured discounted contingency fee arrangements for CMS members, meaning attorney fees are only paid if there is a recovery. CMS does not have a financial stake in whether practices choose to participate -- any damages awarded would go directly to the individual physicians or practices. |

Three Ways to Take the Stress Out of Your Finances |
Between long shifts and countless patients, managing finances may fall to the bottom of your list, leaving you uncertain about where things actually stand. Here are three tips to help you manage your money without adding to your workload: Turn on account notifications. Texts or alerts about transactions can help you better understand what’s coming in and going out.
Get a budgeting tool. Automated tools can connect directly to your accounts to track, categorize, and analyze spending in real-time, reducing time needed for manual entry. Use PRN Personal Loans for big expenses. If large or unexpected expenses arise, personal loans can be a better option than high-interest-rate credit cards. |
