IRS Finalizes “No Tax on Tips” Rule, Clarifying Eligible Hospitality Roles |
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released the final rule regarding occupations eligible for No Tax on Tips. Hospitality occupations eligible include baggage porters and bellhops; concierges; hotel, motel, and resort desk clerks; maids and housekeeping; plus many food and beverage roles.
Consistent with the earlier draft, the final rule includes a broad array of roles within the hotel and lodging industry that receive tips as part of their compensation and affirms that service charges and automatic gratuity are not considered “voluntary” for the purposes of No Tax on Tips. The final rule is set to take effect on June 12, 2026. |

Join Us for a Monthly Member Meeting– Starting May 4, 2026 |

If you’re responsible for the P&L, you know the decisions don’t come with easy answers. A new monthly coffee in Greater Des Moines is built for exactly that—operators talking honestly about what’s working, what’s not, and what’s next. This is a closed-door, member-only conversation where operators share ideas, compare approaches, and walk away with something they can actually use.
The group meets the first Monday of each month starting May 4 at 9:15 a.m. at Gilroy's Kitchen + Pub + Patio. Open to owners, operators, and managers who are current members of the Iowa Restaurant Association, Iowa Hotel & Lodging Association, or Iowa Latino Hospitality Council. |
