News: AMA, Vaccine Integrity Project launch vaccine review for next respiratory season |
The Vaccine Integrity Project, in collaboration with the American Medical Association (AMA), announced the kickoff of a structured, evidence-based review process to assess vaccine safety and effectiveness for the 2026-27 respiratory virus season. The review will focus on immunizations for influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Building on the thorough evidence review completed for the 2025–26 season, this new effort will establish a structured and durable process for evaluating the science underpinning respiratory virus immunization. They will convene leading medical professional societies as well as public health and health care organizations to help define a comprehensive set of policy questions.

Physicians, medical students and legislators connect at 2026 CMS Legislative Night |
|
|
Thank you to the many members who joined us last week, Feb. 11, for the 2026 CMS Legislative Night.
The evening began with a informative session at the Colorado Capitol. Sen. Dafna Michaelson Jenet set the stage for a thoughtful discussion about the policy landscape and Sen. Kyle Mullica and Rep. Lindsay Gilchrist shared insights into what to expect in their committees this legislative session.
The evening continued at the University Club of Denver, where physicians, medical students and legislators gathered for conversation and connection. Events like Legislative Night highlight the strength of physician-led advocacy and the importance of building relationships that support patient-centered policy at the Capitol. |

What prior authorization reform means for surgical care |
Under HB24-1149, surgeons will see significant improvements in how approved procedures are handled: |
-
When an approved surgery requires an additional or related covered procedure during the operation, the insurer cannot deny coverage if delaying care would risk patient harm.
- Carriers cannot retroactively deny payment for the approved surgery due to related intraoperative care.
-
Approvals for surgical care now last one year or the duration of treatment.
|
These changes took effect Jan. 1, 2026 and ensure that patient care decisions remain in the hands of physicians — not paperwork delays. We want to know: Has your practice seen changes since Jan. 1? Are you having to educate your health plan representatives? Respond to this email with your experience. |

Rebuilding trust with the public: Your Care is at our Core |
|
|
| During Colorado's Legislative Night, Colorado Medical Society physicians and medical students gathered at the Capitol to advocate for what matters most to them: their patients. Physicians entered the practice of medicine to treat, heal, and save lives, yet growing bureaucracy increasingly interferes with the patient-physician relationship. By connecting with legislators and decision-makers, we’re working to change the system – so patients and physicians can make health care decisions together.
Learn more about Your Care is at our Core and share your story to be used in CMS publications.
