This year marks the Center’s 35th anniversary – 35 years of working with and for North Carolina’s nonprofit sector. While our programs have grown and changed over time, our mission to educate, connect, and advocate for NC’s nonprofits has been steadfast. Throughout the year, we’ll highlight milestones from our history and the organizations and partners who have helped make our work possible. |

To kick off the celebration, we recognize the nonprofits that took an early leap of faith with us more than three decades ago as Founding and Charter Members of the Center and are still members today. Thank you for believing in our mission and in the idea that, together, we can build strong nonprofits and a strong nonprofit sector.

Service + Advocacy = Stronger Communities
|
As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we’re reminded that it’s not just a day of remembrance but an opportunity for action. Across our communities, volunteers will roll up their sleeves to get involved and give back, reflecting Dr. King’s vision of collective responsibility and shared humanity. From food pantries and shelters to arts groups and environmental organizations, nonprofits across North Carolina rely on and appreciate the volunteers that turn their compassion into impact.
Showing up can also mean using our voices. Simple things like keeping up with what’s going on with your community organizations, talking about it with friends and neighbors, and letting decision-makers know why nonprofits matter are everyday advocacy, and help nonprofits by raising awareness of community challenges and needs that lead to better policies.

Effects of these efforts can been seen in our 2025 Nonprofit Policy Year in Review, which highlights policy and funding changes at the federal and state levels, six major policy trends nonprofits should watch this year, and potential unpredictability that lies ahead. Together, through service and advocacy, we can ensure our voices are heard and our missions and communities protected.
