Dear Friend,
Recently I fulfilled a long-time dream of a safari trip to Africa. Little did I know when planning my trip that visiting a medical dispensary supported by EngenderHealth would be a highlight.
This small outpost in a Masaai village in Tanzania is on the front lines of providing essential care. Its services include dispensing contraceptives; labor and delivery; screenings and consultations; and integrated community programs to address gender-based violence and other issues. The day I visited, the dispensary hosted a vaccine clinic for one-year-olds. Numerous women had walked great distances through hot, dusty conditions to ensure vaccine protection for their little ones.
As a long-time supporter of EngenderHealth, I was buoyed by the enthusiasm and gratitude I witnessed among the clients and the service providers. And I was impressed by how local the solutions are. These programs aren’t designed from afar—they’re built by the communities they serve. You can feel the pride, the ownership, and the hope in every conversation and every smile. |
But I also felt the palpable anxiety of the young doctor in charge, who told me that a grant from the United Kingdom for Scaling Up Family Planning is set to expire next year. Worry about whether this successful program could continue was evident in his face and voice.
With cuts to USAID this year as well, it's all the more urgent for individuals like you and me to continue our support. This isn't charity. It's collaboration with donors, volunteers, and local leaders coming together to make lasting change. Every dollar has an outsized impact. With gratitude, Elizabeth Eccher EngenderHealth Supporter
P.S. Your generosity helps keep this work going—every dollar strengthens local health systems and ensures access to care for all. |
