| Balancing AI, Cybersecurity & Connection |
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we work – nonprofits are no exception. From writing assistance to data insights, AI can be a powerful tool to help do more with less. But as these tools become more common, so do new kinds of cybersecurity risks. |
AI-powered phishing, deepfake impersonations, and automated scams are getting harder to spot. That means protecting donor data and organizational systems is critical. Every organization can take safeguarding steps like using multi-factor authentication (MFA), backing up data regularly, and providing staff refreshers on cybersecurity basics. And yes – AI can help, too! Tools that monitor suspicious activity or flag potential threats can strengthen your security when paired with human oversight.
But while AI can make our work more efficient, it can’t replace the heart of our work: real, human connection. Especially as year end approaches and many organizations ramp up outreach to share your impact and appeal for support. Donors, clients, and partners want to feel seen and valued, not managed by an algorithm. AI can help you personalize messaging and organize data, but the trust and empathy that fuel long-term relationships still come from you and your team. The best approach is balance: set up AI to handle behind-the-scenes tasks so you can focus on authentic conversations and community connection
