Update on insurance rates: Costs to small employers will increase, but less than individual market |
As reported in the last ASAP e-newsletter, the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) announced that the increase in premium costs for private health insurance plans for 2026 on the individual market could be between 28 and 38 percent. In late July, the DOI released a projections for the small group market (1-50 employees), estimating increases on average of 13.6 percent.
Five insurance companies - Anthem’s Rocky Mountain Hospital & Medical Services, Kaiser Foundation of Colorado, Kaiser Permanente, United Healthcare Insurance Company and United Healthcare of Colorado -- plan to offer 383 plans across the state for 2026 covering approximately 172,000 patients. Kaiser Foundation of Colorado and Kaiser Permanente have the lowest average requested rate increases: 7.8 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively. As with the individual market, rates will to be finalized after public comment and approval by the DOI Commissioner.
