Join CMS Town Hall on April 22: Strategies to advance Colorado physicians |
|
|
The Colorado Medical Society (CMS) is hosting an all-member Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 6-7 p.m. This event aims to gather input from CMS members on the strategic plan recently drafted by the CMS Board of Directors during a facilitated two-day session in early March.
This Virtual Town Hall provides an opportunity for members to contribute their thoughts and ideas to shape the future direction of the organization. CMS values member engagement and seeks to ensure that the strategic plan aligns with the priorities and needs of Colorado physicians. We need your input! The four main areas of the draft plan align with our values and strategic priorities: |
- Improved physician health, wellness and career satisfaction
- Stronger physician-led advocacy and practice sustainability
- Greater public trust and understanding of health care
- Increased statewide membership engagement and sustainable revenue growth
|
CMS is also seeking input from component societies and other strategic partners and will use all feedback to refine and strengthen the plan. Don't miss the Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, 6-7 p.m. Register through the button below and share your voice! |

CMS President Kim Warner, MD, featured in AMA "Shadow Me" Specialty Series |
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently featured Colorado Medical Society President Kim Warner, MD, in their "Shadow Me" Specialty Series. She is a powerhouse OB-GYN with Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) and a champion of women.
In the Q&A, the AMA asked her what essential skills an OB-GYN needs that aren't tested on the board exam: "You must have an open heart and connect quickly with patients," Warner said. "Communication is imperative, whether it's with your team or with patients. And you have to have a certain amount of resilience, some pretty decent self-confidence, where you’re confident in the decisions you're making and you can portray your confidence to patients." |

AI in medicine: How physicians (and possibly you) are using it today |
If you’re not already using augmented intelligence (AI) in your practice, you may be soon. According to recent AMA research, physicians’ use of AI has nearly doubled in just one year, with three in five doctors leveraging AI for tasks like medical documentation, care plans, translation services, and even diagnostic assistance. As AI adoption grows, so does enthusiasm for its potential. The AMA is working to ensure AI remains a tool that helps—rather than burdens—physicians. To support this effort, the AMA offers a series of CME modules through the AMA Ed Hub™ to help physicians understand AI’s role in health care. |

AMA advocacy helps physicians avoid a MIPS penalty due to nationwide IV fluid shortage |
In response to advocacy by the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (federal CMS) has reopened the MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) hardship exception and extended the MIPS data submission window for the 2024 performance period.
Physicians affected by the nationwide IV fluid shortage can apply for the hardship exception until April 14, 2025, to avoid a MIPS penalty of up to -9% for the 2024 performance period. The exception allows for reweighting of all four MIPS categories, provided no data has been submitted for a category. The AMA also advises requesting reweighting of the cost performance category if the shortage impacted patient care. |

Survey still open: We need physicians to share your experience on marketplace pressures |
How are the changes in the practice environment affecting your practice? What does it mean for the profession of medicine in Colorado? How will we compare to other states? We need your input!
CMS is partnering with the American Medical Association on a survey to help identify specific pressures faced by physicians—including commercial payer practices and other environmental/market factors—that may nudge physicians into alternate practice arrangements such as private equity (PE).
Results will be used to inform how CMS can best support physicians across different practice arrangements in a time of increased consolidation in health care. |
